Footgolf makes debut at Forest Hills Golf Course
What is FootGolf ? a fair question indeed.
This new sport is a combination of two sports, soccer and golf. The sport of FootGolf is played under the same guidelines as Golf. Bottom line, get the ball in the hole with as few as strokes as possible. However, in the case of Footgolf, the ball is a size #5 soccer ball. The hole is 21″ in diameter and 12″ in depth. And a “stroke” would be defined as striking the ball with ones foot in a continuous motion. The rules largely correspond to the rules of Golf.
Forest Hills has built our 18 hole FootGolf course on the front-side 9 holes. The carefully planned layout is designed to allow both Golf and FootGolf to be played simultaneously. The sport is played in the traditional format of up to four players per group with FootGolfers either walking the course or using golf carts. FootGolf can be played with a single player or a group of four. All of the different formats of golf can be applied to Footgolf as well (i.e., stroke play, alternate, scramble, etc.). Holes are roughly half the distance of a regular golf hole. While the soccer ball does not travel as far in the air as a golf ball, it will roll much farther in the fairways.
The FootGolf course at Forest Hills gives the player all the thrills the traditional golfer would expect. Players begin each hole from a tee box and from there must negotiate bunkers, trees, rolling terrain, and well placed finishing holes. There is a combination of Par 3’s, 4’s, and 5’s for a complete par 72 layout.
